Every year, the GEMBA classes visit an ex-China Asian region for additional, globalized perspective on business leadership. This year’s GEMBA trip took the GEMBA IX class to Bangkok and Jakarta, where the class interacted with leaders including former deputy prime ministers, CEOs of major multinationals’ presence in the region, and U.S. government officials. Companies represented included some of Indonesia’s top multinationals, as well as Ford, Citibank, Seagate and other famous entities.

Our GEMBA Class IX students visited the Shanghai headquarters of the Schindler Group Asia-Pacific, led by our Academic Director Prof. Baizhu Chen and Prof. Carl Voigt. First, senior engineers introduced the elevator and escalator assembly facilities to the class. Following the tour, Mr. Silvio Napoli, Asia-Pacific President of the Schindler Group, shared his c-suite level strategic views of the company’s prospects and challenges. As the class had already studied a case focused on Napoli’s leadership of the company’s Asia business, they had a strong background understanding of the company and of Napoli himself, so the conversation was well-informed and integrated.
