GEMBA faculty Yehuda Bassok.
GEMBA faculty Yehuda Bassok is reappointed as Chair of the Department of Data Sciences and Operations, starting July 1, 2015, for a 3 year term.
Yehuda is Professor of Data Sciences and Operations. He has been on the faculty at Marshall since 1999 and chair of DSO since 2009. Prior to joining USC, he was on the faculty of Northwestern University and a visiting professor at the University of Washington. Yehuda’s research interests include supply chain management, design and analysis of purchasing contracts, management of centralized and decentralized inventory systems, and bargaining within supply chains. His research has been published in many top journals, including Management Science and Operations Research. Yehuda has also received several teaching awards, including Marshall's Golden Apple Award in 2003.
During Yehuda’s tenure as department chair, DSO has thrived. In particular the quality of the faculty has followed a long trend of improvement with successful hiring at both the junior and senior levels. As just one indication of the strength of the faculty, DSO faculty have won four prestigious NSF CAREER Awards in the last few years. In addition DSO has witnessed a significant increase in demand for their electives, especially at the graduate level. Under Yehuda’s direction DSO started two new specialized masters programs; the MS in Global Supply Chain Management and the MS in Business Analytics. Both programs have been very successful with the Masters of Business Analytics (which Yehuda co-directs) having close to 1,000 applications in only its second year.
Department chairs are among the most important leadership roles we have at Marshall, and we are delighted that Yehuda has agreed to fill this position.
