YC Chen is giving speech.
We had a tremendous USC Global Conference in Shanghai in October. But our GEMBA Alumni Association and USC Club of Shanghai carry on with ongoing commitment to bringing value to our alumni community. In this spirit, we invited Mr. Yu Chien (Y.C.) Chen, Senior Logistics Director, Nike China, from GEMBA I as our guest speaker for the co-hosted GEMBA Connect and USC Business luncheon on 25 November.
Y.C. shared with audience his personal career growth and his management experience in Goodyear and Nike.He was born and grew up in America, and has been working in China for 18 years, most recently moving from supply chain director in Goodyear to logistic director of Nike Greater China.
“50% of our business has changed in the last 10 years. The key to surviving is having an ownership culture…You have to get to people’s pride.”Chen thinks that adapting to changes and responding to challenges is anessential quality of professional managers. Healso believes that grooming successors is one of the main responsibilities for great managers. He says that leaders who can prove their ability to do so gain the respect of their organizations – which in turn give them larger teams to develop – promotions!
The USC Alumni Club and GEMBA Connect aim to involve more alumni, so that we can learn from each other, exchange stimulating business ideas and create business cooperation. We are already looking forward to our next GEMBA Connect event.
